As Time goes one, creativity among the movie world dulls down to a dim boring plot. Every movie published since the beginning of time has followed one of the seven basic plot structures. Listed Below these plot structures are followed by every movie maker around the world. Following these points doesn't make a movie bad. The following points are a list of things that can help bring a plot to life and make a good movie.
Seven Basic Plots are ….. Overcoming the Monster …..Rags to Riches …...The Quest.....Voyage and Return.....Comendy.....Rebirth.... The following are points that can help make a movie good. 1. A good Opening: Similar to an essay a movie needs a strong introduction scene to capture and draw the audience in. When writing a first scene of a movie it is better to condense what is happening and have the answer to many questions unravel as the plot continues. In this introduction the movie should establish a pattern that can be brought to the surface towards the end of the movie. EXAMPLE: In Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn the movie Nick Dunn (Ben ) opens the plot by talking about the shape of his wife’s head. He then talks about it would feel t crush it and break it. After a full page of talking about this he continues to start the plot. 2. Single goal of the main character: A goal or motive of the main character should be present towards the middle of the movie to give the audience a reason to continue watching. In an essay this could be known as the rising action to the climax. If a motive isn’t visible until the very end then the movie will be pointless leaving the audience wondering if it will even have a climax. Example: In The Call, Halle Berry plays the role of a dispatcher. Her goal which becomes evident in the middle of the movie, is to save this young girl. After answering the girls 9.11 phone call Halley leaves her office and tracks the kidnapper down herself in an attempt to save the girl. 3. Allow the film to breathe: Space between action giving the audience and plot time to breathe is also very good. This could be a flashback of the main character or even a snippet of a characters life. It helps break up action but a long period with no action contributing to the climax can make a film bad. 4.The Main character should have flaws: When creating a character for any work of literature it is easy to make the character always choose the right path, or make the best decision. In a good movie the main character should make decisions that can hurt others or hurt themselves in the present or future. They should also sometimes make decisions that upset the audience or cause the audience to be frustrated with them. 5.A cause worth fighting for: The motive of the main character should be agreeable with the audience, meaning that if they were in the main characters shoes they would support the same cause Example: In the Hunger Games series, Katniss Everdeen to portrayed as the mockingjay for the revolution. We are made to believe that President Snow is a bad person, and the enemy. This makes us support the Katniss 6.A hero and opponent are not presented. In a great movie a hero and his opponent are developed from actions to let the audience know who is bad and who is not. A narrator or character doesn’t tell the audience, he is bad and she is good. 7.A well developed world. A setting is just as important as any character. A time and place can affect how a character acts and how the make decisions. A world should be developed that has no flaws and would function no matter what. Example: In the Hunger Games, a world is developed throughout the series of three book. In the movies the world is put together so perfectly that it seems to be without flaw, meaning there is no exceptions to curtains things or mistakes. 8. Good Acting: a Movie can fit all of these criteria but still be bad due to awful acting. Since any movie can be hurt with bad acting, good acting can also make a movie who meets few of this criteria better. |
